THE Environmental Management Bureau – National Capital Region (EMB-NCR) partners with China Oceanis Philippines, Inc. – Manila Ocean Park (COPI-MOP) through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for the transfer of the water quality monitoring equipment from Tanza Marine Tree Park in Navotas to the Manila Ocean Park.
EMB-NCR Regional Director, Engr. Maria Dorica Naz-Hipe, CESO V, expressed her heartfelt gratitude to Manila Ocean Park for its steadfast commitment to environmental protection. She also acknowledged their efforts in facilitating the transfer of the Water Quality Monitoring Equipment (WQME) and emphasized the vital importance of this equipment in enhancing the efficiency and reliability of water quality monitoring data.
Ms. Jennilyn C. Vicente, Chief of the Ambient Monitoring and Technical Services Section, presented the overview of the WQME Transfer. She emphasized that the WQME will simplify the monitoring of various water quality parameters at the Manila Ocean Park Station. These parameters include biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), true color units (TCU), total suspended solids, phosphates, nitrates, dissolved oxygen (DO), pH, temperature, total dissolved solids (TDS), salinity, conductivity, and fecal coliform.
The MOA was signed by RD Hipe for DENR EMB-NCR and Mr. Puah Kim Aun, Vice President for Operations and Performance for COPI-MOP. Atty. Linel C. Manayang, OIC of the Environmental Monitoring and Enforcement Division of EMB-NCR and Ms. Mary Joyce Tarroza, Vice President for Sales and Marketing of COPI-MOP signed the MOA as witnesses; and Mr. Elf Alfie Halamani, Pollution Control Officer of COPI-MOP was also present during the signing ceremony.
Representatives from BP Integrated Technologies, Inc., the service provider for the WQME transfer, and some members of the three Water Quality Management Area Governing Boards attended the event. Their presence marks a key milestone in the partnership and outlines the collaborative efforts between the two
parties.
Ms. Tarroza expressed the commitment of Manila Ocean Park to restoring and rehabilitating Manila Bay. They also pledged to maintain and secure the water quality monitoring equipment once installed at Manila Ocean Park. Following this, Atty. Manayang formally closed the program, expressing gratitude to Manila Ocean Park for taking this initiative and pledging their commitment to maintaining the water quality along the Manila Bay area.
