SHEIKH Abdullah bin Zayed, Minister of Foreign Affairs, represented the UAE during talks with foreign ministers representing the BRICS group.
BRICS is an acronym for five regional economies which consist of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.
Russia and China have raised the possibility of BRICS accepting new members as several countries showed interest to join the bloc in recent years.
Some international observers consider BRICS an alternative to the Group of Seven or G7 economies and a challenge to Western influence.
During the meeting, the BRICS foreign ministers called for a rebalancing of the global order away from Western nations and the need for a multi polar world.
Sheikh Abdullah met his Iranian counterpart during the sidelines of the summit and relayed UAE’s interest to expand bilateral ties with Tehran.
