TOURISM Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco welcomed H.E. Mariomassimo Santoro, Ambassador of the European Union (EU) to the Philippines, during a courtesy visit at the Department of Tourism (DOT) on Wednesday, Jan. 8.
The discussions highlighted the strong partnership between the Philippines and the EU, focusing on advancing sustainable tourism, enhancing connectivity, and fostering cultural and economic exchange.
The Philippines and the EU share a long-standing relationship, with European travelers consistently contributing to the country’s tourism growth. Secretary Frasco expressed her gratitude for the EU’s support in positioning the Philippines as a premier destination. In 2024, the Philippines recorded substantial tourist arrivals from Europe, a number expected to rise further with ongoing efforts to enhance air connectivity and market presence.
The meeting further emphasized economic opportunities, particularly the potential to increase tourism receipts and investments in the Philippines. Secretary Frasco also underscored the DOT’s commitment to working closely with international partners like the EU to drive sustainable growth, improve governance, and create inclusive tourism opportunities.
Ambassador Santoro was joined in the meeting by Mr. Philipp Dupuis, head of Economy and Trade Section at the at the EU Embassy.
Meanwhile, Tourism Secretary Frasco was joined by Undersecretaries Shahlimar Hofer Tamano, Maria Rica Bueno, Ferdinand Jumapao and Director Warner Andrada in welcoming the EU guests.
