FORMER Senator Juan Ponce Enrile said in his ‘Dito sa Bayan ni Juan’ program on Sonshine Radio, the extension of the ABS-CBN broadcast despite its franchise has expired could be considered an unconstitutional act.
“Tapos na ‘yung termino, bakit mo ie-extend pa? [it’s] an unconstitutional act kapag ginawa mo ‘yon,” Enrile said.
The former senator also emphasized that every broadcast media franchise should not exceed 25 years in effect unless it is renewed in Congress.
“Nasa Saligang-Batas iyan. That every broadcast media, communication, lahat ‘yan, magkaroon ng franchise. And their franchise must be limited to 25 years, not more. Sinong power dito sa Pilipinas na makakapag-bigay sa’yo ng extension? Only Congress,” the former senator said.
He said the constitution should be respected as it operates in the republic in the country.
“Kung hindi natin rerespetuhin ang saligang-batas natin, ano ang republika natin?” he said.
