US President-Elect Donald Trump’s swearing-in ceremony will be inside the US Capitol Rotunda because of an arctic blast sweeping across the country.
This is said to be the most frigid, coldest Inauguration since President Ronald Raegan in 1985, when his swearing-in ceremony was also moved indoors.
Snow began pouring down again Sunday afternoon, blanketing the area in white. Still, a few hardy visitors braved the blizzard to catch Capitol preparations before the big day — as well as attend the incoming president’s victory rally at Capital One Arena.
The high in the nation’s capital is forecast to be in the low 20s. But due to the wind, it may feel like between 5 and 10 degrees.
Officials from the Joint Congressional Committe on Inaugural Ceremonies report that a “vast number” of ticketed guests may not be able to attend the ceremonies in person due to the cold. Those with tickets for the Presidential Platform, members of Congress, and honored dignitaries who will be attending inside the Rotunda.
Trump on social media platform Truth Social said he does not want to see people hurt or injured in any way; but if they do decide to come, they should dress warmly.
The Capital One Arena is open today for those who manage to attend live. Trump promises to join the crowd at the 20,000- seating arena after his swearing-in ceremony.
