MAKIKIPAG-ugnayan ang Food and Drug Administration (FDA) sa National Bureau of Investigation laban sa mga nasa likod ng health products na ilegal na gumagamit ng litrato ng mga doktor.
Kasunod ng naglipanang ilegal na gumagamit ng larawan ng mga doktor para sa fake advertisements ng mga gamot ay sinabihan ni Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Ted Herbosa ang FDA na makipag-coordinate sa NBI hinggil dito.
“I’ve seen this in social media, many of my friends, doctor-friends who are popular and especially have been victimized for a drug that they did not endorse using their photos taken out of social media – and these are really the scammers,” pahayag ni Sec. Ted Herbosa, DOH.
Sa Palace briefing, sinabi ni Sec. Herbosa na kabilang sa sikat na personalities na naghain na ng kaso sa cybercrime division ng NBI ay sina Dr. Willie Ong at Dr. Tony Leachon.
Una rito, nagpanukala si Senator Jinggoy Estrada na imbestigahan ng Senado ang fake advertisements ng mga gamot at food supplements na gumagamit ng pangalan o ng mukha ng mga sikat na personalities.
“So, this is under the realm—in DOH, this is under the realm of the FDA – they are a regulatory agency with police powers. So I think our—I’ll instruct the head of FDA, si Sam Zacate to actually coordinate with the NBI to really get to the bottom of this,” dagdag ni Herbosa.
Kaugnay rito, umapela ang kalihim ng tulong para sa pagbibigay ng impormasyon sa publiko kaugnay sa ganitong scam gaya ng paggamit ng larawan ng popular na doktor para sa treatment umano ng diabetes o hypertension na hindi naman valid.
Kasunod nito, nagbabala si Herbosa sa publiko na tiyakin ang binibiling gamot ay may FDA approval.
Marami aniyang pumapasok na tinatawag na bawal o smuggled mula sa ibang bansa na hindi rehistradong brand o mga produktong kontrabando.
Saad ng kalihim, maaaring kumpiskahin ang mga ganitong produkto o isara ng FDA ang mga tindahan na nagbebenta nito kahit online.
“Mayroon iyon sa lahat – sa bottle or sa box nakalagay ‘FDA approved’ and those are the ones that are legal,” ani Herbosa.
Inihayag pa ng Health chief na malaking tulong din ang SIM registration para agad masawata ang mga gumagawa ng ganitong ilegal na gawain.
“ ‘Di ba mayroon na tayong phone registration – should be easy to catch them with the SIM registration but apparently it still continue, they’re very still very bold in making all these Facebook and social media cards that seem to promote a certain drug using the image of a popular doctor,” aniya.
