FORMER Ozamiz City Vice Mayor Nova Princess Parojinog has been sentenced to life imprisonment after being found guilty in a drug case by the Quezon City Regional Trial Court.
To recall, more than 677 grams of shabu were seized from her residence in Brgy. San Roque, Ozamis City, during a raid conducted by authorities in 2017 as part of the Duterte administration’s war on drugs campaign.
Based on the 160-page decision of Judge Mitushealla R. Manzanero-Casiño of Quezon City Regional Trial Court Branch 228, there is no doubt that Parojinog violated Republic Act 9165.
No suspicious activities were found in the chain of custody of the confiscated shabu.
The court also emphasized that the search warrant served during the operation was legitimate, with media and barangay officials present as witnesses when the warrant was read.
Meanwhile, in addition to a life sentence, the court has ordered Parojinog to pay P500,000 for her offense.
The court also mandated Parojinog to be transferred from the Taguig City Jail Female Dormitory to the Correctional Institute for Women in Mandaluyong.
The court has directed that the confiscated shabu from the accused be turned over to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) for proper disposal.
