Former PDEA agent Jonathan Morales has apologized for his conduct and his response to Sen. Jinggoy Estrada, but Morales insists that the insults directed at him by the senator did not benefit the Filipino people.
A heated exchange occurred in the Senate between Sen. Jinggoy Estrada and former PDEA agent Jonathan Morales during the third hearing of the Senate Committee on Public Order and Dangerous Drugs on the issue of PDEA leaks involving President Bongbong Marcos.
During the hearing, Morales seemed to have had enough of Sen. Estrada’s repeated mentions of his past, especially his previous cases, which led him to respond to the senator.
“Your honor, it seems unfair to me what Sen. Jinggoy Estrada is saying about me. It feels like I am being judged. I have pending cases that are yet to be proven in court. Unlike our esteemed senator who has already been convicted. Please, don’t do that,” said Jonathan Morales, ex-PDEA agent.
“You know, Morales, don’t meddle with my case. Focus on your own case,” Sen. Jinggoy Estrada stated.
This scene in the Senate has garnered various reactions and has gone viral on social media.
Because of this, Morales apologized for his response to Estrada.
In an exclusive interview with SMNI News on Tuesday, Jonathan Morales said he did not intend to react the way he did to Estrada.
“I would like to take this opportunity to apologize to the public, and I did not intend for my actions to be like that towards the esteemed senator,” Morales added.
He said he only did it to explain himself because he has not yet been convicted of the charges filed against him.
He also mentioned that instead of obtaining substantial information during the third Senate hearing, it focused on slandering and insulting him by Estrada.
“Because I see that instead of extracting substantial information related to this investigation, it’s all slander and irrelevant actions that do not help the investigation. How can he create proper legislation if slander is what he’s doing?” Morales.
In the end, Jonathan Morales reiterated that the insults directed at him by the senator did not benefit the public.
“Still, nothing has changed. That’s why when he asked me if I said that he doesn’t know how to investigate, I said yes, I said it to his face. Yes, and that’s my opinion as an investigator. He also asked me if I said that his salary is wasted. I said yes, as an investigator, that’s my opinion,” Morales stressed.
