THE German Army’s Special Forces Command has joined the Netherlands in sending troops to Cyprus amid fears that the fighting between Israel and Gaza will affect the Mediterranean island.
The primary mission of the special forces teams from Germany and the Netherlands is to evacuate German citizens and diplomatic personnel should the situation in the Middle East escalate.
The German troops also boast expertise in rescuing hostages.
An estimated 100,000 Israelis holding German passports live in Israel.

Germany and the Netherlands also sent several military transport aircraft, including the Airbus A400M Atlas and Lockheed C-130 Hercules, as well as a group of marines and support staff.to Cyprus.
It is believed that German special forces may be preparing to help rescue the German citizens taken captive by Hamas.
