GREEK Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Dendias traveled to New York to officially launch the country’s campaign as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the period 2025-2026.
Dendias launched the bid at an event organized by the Permanent Mission of Greece to the UN in New York earlier this week.
The Greek foreign minister presented the campaign in front of dozens of heads of permanent delegations from around the world.
In his speech, Dendias emphasized the country’s consistent support for dialogue and diplomacy as the only viable means to achieve the main goals of this Organization which consist of international peace, development, and the promotion of human rights.
“Greece always supports dialogue and diplomacy as the only viable means to achieve the main goals of this Organisation: international peace, development and the promotion of human rights,” said Nikos Dendias, Greek Minister of Foreign Affairs.
If elected, Greece promised to focus on six main priorities as a non-permanent member which include: peaceful settlement of disputes; respect for international law, UN Charter rules & principles, Women, Peace & Security; Climate change & Security; Maritime security; and Children in Armed Conflict.
The Greek official met with high-level delegates including UN Secretary-General António Guterres during the event.
And vowed to further promote the principles of the Law of the Sea amid territorial disputes with Türkiye.
