FORMER Senator Gregorio “Gringo” Honasan II condemned the warrantless arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte by the Philippine National Police (PNP), allegedly under the directive of PNP Chief Gen. Marbil.
He warned that this sets a dangerous precedent, raising serious questions about the Philippines’ sovereignty and its ability to uphold its own justice system.
“This morning, former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte was arrested without a warrant by the Philippine National Police under the directive of PNP Chief Gen. Marbil. The real issue here is the sovereignty of our nation.
What is happening now is a dangerous precedent—one that raises serious questions about our nation’s sovereignty and our ability to uphold our own justice system.
The rule of law must prevail. Our justice system must not be dictated by foreign influence or international pressure,” stated Gregorio “Gringo” Honasan II, Former Senator of the Republic of the Philippines.
