HONDURAS’ President Xiomara Castro recognized the One-China principle during a bilateral meeting with President Xi Jinping in Beijing on Monday, several months after the country had established diplomatic ties with China.
According to Castro she recognizes the global leadership of Xi in promoting the Belt and Road initiative and the global development, global civilization and global security initiative
“As President of Honduras, I recognize the One-China policy, the one led by President Xi Jinping with his advances and the development of his people, as well as his world leadership promoting the Belt and Road initiative and global development, global civilization, and the global security initiative that we have accepted, being aware of the great challenges to distribute the asymmetries, combat the arms race, the proliferation of nuclear weapons, and build peace that is so necessary to rethink the course of humanity,” said Pres. Xiomara Castro, Honduras.
The visit marks the first visit of the Honduran leader to the People’s Republic of China after Honduras established its formal relationship with Beijing last March while breaking diplomatic ties with Taiwan.
During her visit, Honduras opened its first embassy in Beijing, with the countries’ respective foreign ministers taking part in an inauguration ceremony.
According to Pres. Xi, China is ready to work with Honduras and other countries in Latin America and the Caribbean to strengthen the China-community of Latin American and Carribean states forum.
Meanwhile, Castro is scheduled to conclude her six-day trip to China on Wednesday.
