Honoring South-East Asian roots; DPWH-NCR employees grace 1st Monday of 2025 with ASEAN-inspired attires

HONORING the South-East Asian roots – officials and employees of the Department of Public Works and HighwayNational Capital Region, including its nine District Engineering Offices donned outfits inspired by the Association of South-East Asian Nations (ASEAN) at the first flag raising ceremony of the year today, January 6, 2025.

As part of the Memorandum Circular No. 16, series of 2024 of the Civil Service Commission, aligned with Republic Act No. 9242 or the Philippine Tropical Fabrics Law, government employees are prescribed to wear ASEAN-inspired attire every first Monday of the month; and Filipiniana-inspired for the remaining Mondays of the month. It aims to boost the demand for locally sourced fabrics, with emphasis on the piña-fabric industry.

This initiative not only promotes Filipino patriotism, and highlights our national identity; but also encourages inclusivity, and appreciation of the rich and diverse traditional garments of the South-East Asian region.
