Hugpong sa Tawong Lungsod Party Independence Day Message

TODAY, we commemorate the 126th anniversary of Philippine Independence, we remember the bravery and sacrifices of our ancestors. However, as we celebrate this important milestone, we must also reflect on the true essence of independence. Recent events compel us to question the depth and reality of our sovereignty. Are we truly free?

The International Criminal Court (ICC) has recently intensified its probe into the drug war. We must ask ourselves whether external interventions interfere with our nation’s sovereignty. As an independent nation, are we subjected to undue control from foreign entities? This situation calls for a balanced approach that ensures justice while safeguarding our autonomy.

Furthermore, we must address the escalating tensions between the United States and China. The ongoing conflict between these global powers has now dragged us into the West Philippine Sea issue. What is even more disheartening is the potential for compulsory conscription, forcing our citizens to become soldiers and putting us all at risk of death. This is a dire prospect for our nation. We say no to war. Our independence should not mean becoming a tool for foreign interests; it should mean standing strong for our own national interests and the well-being of our people.

Moreover, we must be vigilant about the economic interventions from foreign entities. We must strive to build a self-reliant economy that serves the Filipino people first and foremost, free from undue external control.

Additionally, the use of excessive and unnecessary force within Kingdom of Jesus Christ, a place of worship and on school premises is absolutely unacceptable. Will this overkill be the trademark of this administration when dealing with individuals who are merely accused of committing a crime and have not been proven guilty? This incident not only questions the methods of our law enforcement but also our commitment to upholding human rights and the rule of law.

Independence Day should remind us of our nation’s values and principles: freedom, justice, and dignity for all. We must ensure that these values are reflected in our actions and governance.

As we honor the past, let us also commit to a future where true independence is not just a historical claim but a lived reality for every Filipino. A future where our nation stands tall, free from external manipulation and internal abuse of power.

May we continue to strive for a genuinely independent Philippines, just, and united.

Mabuhay ang Pilipinas!
