IAEA chief cancels visit to Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant

INTERNATIONAL Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi canceled his scheduled visit to the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant yesterday due to alleged threats to the plant’s safety.

This was stated by Ukrainian Energy Minister Herman Galushchenko who said Grossi is currently in Ukraine and that his visit to the nuclear power plant will be scheduled in the next few days.

At present, the Ukrainian military is still studying the situation.

According to some Russian media, Grossi is scheduled to visit on Thursday, June 15.

For the purpose of studying the site’s situation following the Kakhovka Dam explosion.

It can be remembered that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with Grossi to discuss possible security threats to the plant.

The Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant Dam was blown up on June 6 and both Ukraine and Russia accused each other of ordering the attack.

To note, the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant has been under Russian control since March last year and is located 140 kilometers northeast of the Kakhovka Plant.
