Indian police arrest 4 intruders for breaching security during anniversary of deadly attack

IN India, intruders breached into the Lower House of the country’s parliament and this happened on the anniversary of a deadly 2001 attack on the complex.

Two men breached the lawmakers’ area of India’s new parliament recently.

They jumped onto the House floor from the visitors’ gallery and went toward the speaker’s chair in the parliament’s Lower House, known as the Lok Sabha.

The two intruders reportedly set off cans of yellow smoke, and jumped over the benches, as members of the parliament surrounded them.

The Indian parliament was adjourned for around an hour.

The duo was detained by security officials, along with two other people outside the building.

Reports say that the four accused were three men and a woman in their 20s and 30s. Authorities have yet to officially confirm their identities.

The Indian Ministry of Home Affairs has launched a probe into the security breach.

The breach occurred on the 22nd anniversary of a deadly attack on the parliament.

A day after the breach, security was rumpled up around to parliament buildings.

Authorities erected barricades outside the complex to restrict entry.

Both Houses were adjourned following protests by Indian opposition MPs who demanded a discussion about the incident and statements from the prime minister and home minister.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was not at the parliament when the incident occurred.

And earlier in the day, Modi and some other cabinet ministers paid tribute to the December 13, 2001 incident involving security personnel who were killed in a shootout in parliament.
