India’s Silicon Valley faces severe water shortage

BENGALURU, a southern city commonly known as India‘s Silicon Valley, is now facing a severe water shortage.

The low rainfall brought by the monsoon season affected about half of its 15 million groundwater and around 7,000 bore-wells have been dried up.

Thousands of residents in the southern Indian city are affected by the water shortage.

Some of the personnel at the I.T. hub claimed that water in the city has become a precious commodity.

Residents have been spending a lot of money to buy water which needed to be booked two or three days before delivery due to high demand.

Despite the situation, the Deputy Chief Minister claimed there is no water crisis and arrangements have been made to address the issue.

Meanwhile, experts blamed the rapid urbanization for the decline of water supply in Bengaluru’s lakes while an unfinished pipeline only worsened the crisis.

As residents lament of severe water shortage, scientists predicted that the severe heatwaves might last until June.
