Indonesian FM walks out during Israel envoy’s UN speech

INDONESIAN Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi and other foreign diplomats made a scene as they stepped out of the debate just when Israel’s permanent representative to the United Nations Gilad Erdan was starting to give a speech.

A video circulating online showed Minister Retno along with other Organization of Islamic Cooperation or OIC members walking out at the onset of Erdan’s speech.

In return, the Israeli ambassador was also not present when the Indonesian minister and other OIC members delivered their statement.

At the meeting, Retno condemned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s statement rejecting the existence of a Palestinian state.

The incident happened while the UN Security Council held an open debate regarding the Gaza war in New York on Tuesday, local time.

The Indonesian minister emphasized that Palestine must be granted full membership in the UN immediately and urged countries to stop the flow of weapons to Israel.
