Indonesian president attends Arab-Islamic summit in Saudi Arabia

INDONESIAN President Joko Widodo, better known by his nickname Jokowi, arrived in Riyadh on Saturday to attend an extraordinary summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

The humanitarian impact of the fighting between Israel and Hamas was the main agenda of the meeting as leaders of OIC member states convened in the Saudi capital this weekend.

Indonesia has supported calls for a ceasefire in Gaza to allow the entry of aid for the civilians.

President Jokowi has condemned the attacks in the Palestinian territory that resulted in civilian casualties on several occasions.

At present, six Indonesians are still in Gaza, three of whom are awaiting evacuation.

From Riyadh, President Widodo will travel to the United States to meet United States President Joe Biden at the White House on Monday, November 13.

The United States is a close ally of Israel and showed support for its right to self-defense in the wake of the ongoing conflict.
