IRAN’S Acting Foreign Minister Ali Kani discussed the matter with Bahrain’s Foreign Minister Abdullatif Al Zayani on the sidelines of the Asian Cooperation Dialogue in Tehran.
Both sides agreed to start talks on the requirements for resuming diplomatic relations.
Bahrain and Saudi Arabia cut ties with Iran in 2016 following the attacks on the Saudi embassy in Tehran caused by the execution of an opposition Shiite cleric.
Bahrain has also accused Iran in the past of initiating unrest in the Gulf nation.
Bahrain softened its stance towards Iran after Saudi Arabia restored diplomatic ties with the Islamic Republic in March 2023 with China’s help. Bahrain also asked Russia earlier this month to send Iran a message it is ready to settle differences.
