IRAN’s Foreign Minister welcomed the Houthi delegation for talks a day after a deadly clash between the US Navy that killed at least ten members of the Iran-backed militant group from Yemen.
Abdollahian was accompanied by Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf in meeting senior Houthi spokesman Mohammed Abdulsalam in Tehran earlier this week.
Before the meeting, the Houthi fighters clashed with the US Navy in the Red Sea which killed ten of its members after the USS Eisenhower nuclear-powered aircraft carrier shot down three of their boats on Sunday.
Local media reported that Iran’s Alborz warship entered the Red Sea a day after the deadly encounter.
The meeting focused on international negotiations in Gaza, the Israel-Hamas war, and the importance of strengthening the Palestinian resistance.
To recall, the Iranian foreign minister met with Hamas’s political leader, Ismail Haniyeh, in Qatar before the latter traveled to Egypt for ceasefire talks about two weeks ago.
A senior Houthi leader warned the Netherlands not to intervene in the Red Sea tensions after several European countries joined a US-led multinational task force to counter increasing Houthi attacks in the strategic waterway.
