Iran orders US to pay $50-B for assassination of top general

AN Iranian court ruled the US government including dozens of individuals and entities should pay nearly $50-B in compensation for their role in assassinating General Qasem Soleimani and an Iraqi lieutenant.

The 62-year-old Iranian general and his Iraqi lieutenant were killed by a drone strike near Baghdad International Airport on January 3, 2020.

Iran accused former President Donald Trump as the mastermind behind the drone strike.

US officials justified the strike as a response to the escalating attacks against US personnel in the region.

Soleimani was an Iranian major general and commander of the Quds Force – one of five branches of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. The Iranian general was considered the second most powerful person in Iran after Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
