NAPILI bilang team captain ng Gilas Pilipinas ang Ateneo Center na si Isaac Go para sa FIBA Asia Cup 2021 qualifiers na gaganapin sa Angeles City Foundation Gym Clark, Pampanga.
Papalitan nito si Rey Suerte na nagtamo ng sprained ankle injury.
Ayon sa Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP), si Isaac Go ang top overall pick sa Special Gilas Round ng 2019 PBA Rookie Draft.
Hindi naman makapaniwala ang player sa anunsyo ng coach na maging captain ball ng team.
“Honestly I am in shocked, when coach have announced me as a team captain, I really did not expect it, ahm as what coach has been preaching in this entire trip, in this entire bubble that ahm he wants everyone to become leader, and I guess now his challenging me specifically to become a leader especially since we lost Rey, ahm we’ll miss him definitely but at the same time it provides a challenge not only me but for everybody to step up and to become a leader”.
Nakapaglaro na rin ito sa mga qualifying games ng Gilas.
Ayon naman kay Go na bilang isang lider ng team ay babaguhin nito ang kanyang pagiging soft spoken.
“In terms of I’ve really led more by example because I’m not really the most vocal guy, so I think a lot of my teammates have seen the work I’ve put in so that’s what they respect, but I think now the challenges now for me to become more a little bit vocal, is not Rey was, Matt was, even Mike, the previous window Kiefer, they were very vocal leaders so I think that’s the one thing that I have to still to work on.”
Nakatakdang makaharap ng Gilas sa qualifying window sa Hunyo 16 ang South Korea, susundan ng Indonesia sa Hunyo 18 at muling kakalabanin ang South Korea sa Linggo ng Hunyo 20.
