Israel envoy calls on UN chief to resign

GILAD Erdan, the Israel Ambassador to the United Nations, criticized Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and accused him of losing impartiality and that he is showing compassion for terrorists and murderers.

Erdan is calling for the immediate resignation of Guterres, saying that he is not fit to lead the United Nations.

To recall, Guterres on Tuesday raised concerns over the violation of International Humanitarian Law in Gaza Strip as Israeli strikes continue to pound the area.

While Guterres had condemned what he described as appalling and inexcusable violence by Hamas, he noted that Haza had been subjected to 56 years of suffocating occupation and that Israel’s response to the October 7 attacks has amounted to collective punishment of Palestinians.

The UN chief had also urged for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire and to facilitate the release of hostages held by Hamas, deliver aid to innocent civilians, and ease the suffering in the Palestinian territory.

Meanwhile, Israeli Foreign Minister, Eli Cohen, questioned the UN chief’s remarks.

It can be remembered that Israel has increased its attack on the Gaza Strip ahead of a looming ground mobilization against Hamas.
