THE government of Israel has explained its reluctance to supply weapons to Ukraine.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu explained on Thursday that Israel is bound by an agreement with Russia over Syria and so they will not supply weapons to Ukraine.
During a joint press conference with Chancellor Olaf Scholz in Germany, Netanyahu was asked if Israel would continue to not supply Ukraine with arms.
Netanyahu responded by saying that Israel had decided to stop Iran from creating a ‘third front’ against the Jewish state on its Northern border”
“To prevent that the ‘third front’, we used air power, to do that, we had an arrangement struck with the Russian government and with the Russian air force, and the Russian army in Syria that we do not shoot down each other’s planes,” said Benjamin Netanyahu Prime Minister of Israel.
He added that due to the complex situation, they are instead offering humanitarian and defensive assistance to Ukraine.
In addition, Netanyahu pointed out that Israel is helping Ukraine with warning systems that point the locations targeted by Russian strikes.
