JMC Kings beat Max Ballers during the Davao Dream League Finals in Davao City with a 97-81 score

THE Jose Maria College Foundation Inc. basketball team or the JMC Kings once again dominate the basketball court after beating the Max Ballers team during the Davao Dream League Finals.

The JMCFI Kings continue its winning streak as it dominates against the Max Ballers in the recently concluded Davao Dream League with a final score of 97-81.

Besting 8 other teams, the JMCFI fought its way to the finals with a clean streak of 7 wins and 0 losses.

The team is composed of both High School and College players who are under the age of 21.

Moreover, the Kings also won 5 individual awards. Three of the players, namely Arvie Poyos, Kim Montana, and Braebon Tompson won the Mythical 5 award. Furthermore, Tompson was also awarded the Defensive Player of the Year while David Mendiola was proclaimed the Finals Most Valuable Player.

JMCFI Coach, Flordelito Cagampang, stated that the team has been rigorously training and preparing for this league.

“First of all, we really prepared for this league because our standing is 7-0, and now 8-0. It’s risky because if we lose even just once, we’ll immediately fall to second place. And the opposing team is composed of selected players (from different schools). They are all great players. Meanwhile for us, the whole team is from our school only. So we prepared very early for this league,” said Flordelito Cagampang, Coach, JMCFI Kings.

This is an important game because Pastor already said that we cannot lose. So we really worked hard for that. We may lose but at least we gave our best. We did not lose without a fight.

Meanwhile, the coach and players of Max Ballers, as well as the organizers of the Davao Dream League commend the JMCFI Kings for their commitment to training, chemistry, and well-thought-out plays.

“The game was very intense. We did not achieve a close fight because our players are not enough but we did our best so that we can compete against JMC which is a very strong team. They practiced well, they are a very systematic team,” said Laurence O. Villagonzalo, Coach, Max Ballers.

The JMC Kings are well-trained. Also, they are a school and we are just a club so are very committed to their team. They are fully committed to practice. They are always complete. And then the coaches have control over their players so that they can execute what their coaches told them.

“They have a very solid defense and they also exert a lot of effort in defense to offense,” added Baller.

“They are very strong. They exerted a lot of effort to win,”  said John Michael Bonares, Player, Max Ballers Season’s Most Valuable Player (MVP).

“What I can see from the JMC Kings, a lot of talent and chemistry. Number one thing that I saw in JMC Kings is chemistry. So far, that’s the team na I can see consistent chemistry and that’s what led them to have an undefeated feat in this league,” said Miguel Competente, League Commissioner, Davao Dream League.

League Commissioner, Miguel Competente also stated that Mindanao is full of talented sports players and it is more than capable of producing athletes that can compete at the national level.

“When we started the league, I was surprised by the talents of under 21 players because of the galing tayo lockdown so I didn’t see quite enough players,” added Competente.

“I really see Mindanao teams can really compete in Manila or in any league. As you can see for the past NCAA, UAAP players are mostly from Mindanao. I know we can compete,” he added.

“And I was shocked that under 21 players can do such things,” he said.

On the other hand, the JMCFI Kings express their gratitude to the Founding President of the Jose Maria College Foundation, Inc., Pastor Apollo C. Quiboloy for his unwavering support.

“Pastor, thank you very much for your support. Our players are very happy that we won the championship title again. You really won’t regret giving us these gifts, Pastor. This is our way of repaying you, Pastor, this championship. And we will work hard so that we will not lose, Pastorm,” said Flordelito Cagampang, Coach, JMCFI Kings.

“First of all I would like to thank God, and especially, Pastor Apollo C. Quiboloy, the JMCFI, my coach, and Ma’am Rose, and also all the fans. We just enjoyed the game and followed what our coach told us. We really just enjoy the game,” said David Mendiola, Player, JMCFI Kings, Finals Most Valuable Player (MVP).

“We are very thankful to JMC especially to Pastor for supporting us. They really give us so much support. The support they give us here is more than the support that other teams receive,” said Kim Montana, Player, JMCFI Kings, Mythical 5 awardee.

“First of all, thank you Pastor for the support, and thank you to the school. In this game, we just gave our best. This “Defensive Player of the Year” and “Mythical 5” award is just a bonus. What’s important is that we won. We really gave our all. Defense, offense. What matters most is that we won the championship,” said Braebon Tompson, Player, JMCFI Kings, Defensive Player of the Year, Mythical 5 awardee.

Now, the Kings are preparing for the Philippine Collegiate Champions League and its current standing in the PCCL is 3 wins and 0 losses. They are now competing in the quarterfinals and the team is hoping to make it through the championships. For my beloved Philippines, this is Marian Ambrocio, reporting for SMNI News.
