HINDI bumigay si Jeffrey Ka ‘Eric’ Celiz sa nais ng mga miyembro ng House Committee on Legislative Franchises na pangalanan nito ang kaniyang source sa isyu ng P1.8-B travel expenses na itinatanong sa Office of the Speaker.
“Kay Speaker Martin Romualdez P1.8 Billion ang travel cost, P1.8-Billion. (For how long?) For almost 1 year lang? For the entire Congress? Sa kaniya lang. Kaya nagtatanong itong ating source from Congress (Is it true?) P1.8 Billion, sabi niya pakitanong Ka Eric at paki-explain din,” saad ni Jeffrey ‘Ka Eric’ Celiz, Program Host, Laban Kasama ang Bayan.
‘Yan ang isyu kung bakit pinaimbestigahan ng House Legislative Franchises Committee ang prangkisa ng SMNI.
Nagdulot raw kasi ng negatibong imahe kay Speaker Martin Romualdez ang pagtatanong ni Ka-Eric.
Dalawang beses nang ipinatawag sa Kamara ang SMNI.
Sa unang hearing, sinabi ni Ka-Eric na taga-Senado ang source ng kaniyang impormasyon sa P1.8-B.
Mariin ding itinanggi ng Kamara na akusasyon at sinabing nasa P39-M lang ang nagastos sa 2023 travel nila.
Sa ikalawang hearing nitong Martes ng hapon, Disyembre 5— muling tinanong si Ka-Eric kung sino ang source.
Pero, iginiit nito ang Sotto Law o RA 11458 na nagbibigay karapatan sa mga mamamahayag na protektahan ang kanilang source.
“This is section 1 of 11458 as amended. Without prejudice, ability, or inability of civil and criminal laws- any publisher, owner, or duly recognized or accredited journalist whether a reporter, writer, contributor, opinion writer, editor columnist, manager of media, or other media practitioner involved in the writing, editing, production and dissemination of news or mass circulation of any print, broadcast, wire service organization or electronic mass media including cable TV, television, and its variants cannot be compelled to reveal the source of any news item, report or any information appearing or being reported or disseminated through other or the said media which was related in confidence or reported in confidence,” ayon kay Ka Eric.
Pwede lamang raw makakakuha sa impormasyon ng source ay ang Senado, Kamara at Korte kumporme kung ito ay may kaugnayan sa national interest.
Ani Ka Eric, not of national interest ang isyu na kaniyang kinasasangkutan.
At para lalong protektahan ang identity ng kaniyang source, tinanggihan din ni Ka Eric ang alok na pangalanan ito sa isang executive session.
Para naman sa komite, hindi pwedeng gamitin ni Ka Eric ang Sotto law.
“Ka Eric is cited for contempt. May I ask the sergeant at arms to take Ka Eric,” saad ni Rep. Gus Tambunting, Chairman, House Committee on Legislative Franchises.
Nakangiti at mahinahon namang sumama si Ka Eric sa mga bantay.
Mananatili siya sa premises ng House of Representatives.
“Karapatan po ng mamamayan ang ipinagtatanggol dito. Ang Konstitusyon ay bahagi ng batas, pinakamataas na batas ng ating bansa. I will be detained to for life so be it. I will stand for my right. Otherwise I will lost my right and the people’s rights,” pahayag ni Ka Eric.
Mananatili siya sa Kamara hanggang sa ma-adopt ang committee report sa franchise investigation.
