THE United Kingdom (UK) is allegedly one of the countries with special military forces operating inside Ukraine.
This is according to dozens of alleged Pentagon documents leaked online.
These files, marked as “top secret” contains details and images of current Western forces deployed in Ukraine.
The leaked files also contain sensitive information about Ukraine’s preparation for a spring counter-offensive.
The Pentagon is investigating the issue.
The United States Justice Department, on the other hand, announced its own separate investigation and that it is in communication with US military officials.
One of the leaked documents also contains information that the United Kingdom has the largest special forces deployed in Ukraine, with up to 50, followed by other NATO-member allies, including Latvia with 17, France with 15, the UN with 14, and 1 from The Netherlands.
The documents did not specify where their location or purpose in Ukraine.
The number of personnel in every group of special forces is low, but according to experts, they are much more highly skilled and more experienced compared to the average military.
The UK defense ministry, meanwhile, said that the alleged leaked documents were inaccurate.
The UK, however, did not specify which leaked documents were false, but to recall, a Pentagon official claimed that the leaked documents were real.
National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby also stated that these documents should not be in the public domain and deserve to be protected.
“I think the American people need to know and deserve to know that we are taking this very, very seriously. The president has been briefed on this, he will stay briefed on this. The Department of Defence is looking into this. They are leading an inter-agency effort here to review whatever national security implications may come out of all of this. The Department of Justice is leading a criminal investigation. So we are taking this very, very seriously. There is no excuse for this kind of documents to be in the public domain. They don’t deserve to be in the public domain. They deserve to be protected. We are going to get to the bottom of this and if there’s actions that need to be taken as we learn more about the extent of what happened here, we’ll obviously take those,” said John Kirby, White House National Security Council Spokesman.
US officials said they were working to remove such materials from the internet. However, their efforts appear to have been unsuccessful so far, as there are still many documents that remain accessible through social media sites.
And to this day, it remains unclear where they came from since the scores of leaked documents first appeared on the discord server mine craft Earth maps.
