BREAKING: Lion Air’s entire fleet will be grounded – Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP).

“While the investigation on the medical evacuation plane RP-C5880 is ongoing, it has been decided that Lion Air’s entire fleet will be grounded,” CAAP says.

As of now, the privacy of the victims remains intact until the cause of the accident and the entire investigation concludes.

In a previous statement, CAAP said that an Agusta WW24 aircraft with registry number RP-C5880 has reportedly encountered an accident at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

The medical evacuation flight, bound for Tokyo/Haneda in Japan, reportedly encountered a technical problem while rolling for takeoff on Runway 06 at around 8:00 pm Sunday, March 29.

As per the flight’s manifest, the aircraft was carrying eight (8) persons on board (6 crew and 2 passengers).

The Department of Health has been partnering with Lion Air to transport medical supplies in Visayas and Mindanao.
