LRT-1 Cavite Extension Phase 1 nearly 100% complete

LRT-1 Cavite Extension Phase 1 nearly 100% complete

THE Department of Transportation (DOTr) inspected the Dr. Santos Station of the LRT-1 Cavite Extension Phase 1 project. The overall progress rate of the project stands at 98.2%.

The extension includes five stations, several of which are nearly 100% complete. Two of these stations will be connected to NAIA and PITX.

Partial operation is expected to commence in the last quarter of 2024. The facility is estimated to accommodate up to 50,000 passengers upon opening.

Officials claim the project will significantly alleviate traffic congestion in Metro Manila.

“With 50,000 passengers using this system, there will be a reduction in the number of people using private cars and other public utility vehicles,” said Sec. Jaime Bautista, Department of Transportation.

“We’re hoping to double that in terms of forecast, I think it’s going to double to 80,000 to 100,000. So definitely that would somehow impact directly and indirectly traffic,” stated Enrico Benipayo, General Manager, Light Rail Manila Corporation.

Dr. Santos Station of LRT-1 Cavite Extension Phase 1 to Include Bus, Jeep, Taxi, and UV Express Terminals

Dr. Santos Station of the LRT-1 Cavite Extension Phase 1 is an intermodal facility, meaning that upon exiting, passengers have access to terminals for buses, jeeps, taxis, and UV Express.

“This facility will be similar to PITX, well-coordinated with the city.”

“We will establish an intermodal terminal here to ensure easier access in and out of this station,” said Congressman Edwin Olivarez, Parañaque City.

LRT-1 Cavite Extension Fares Cheaper than Jeepneys and Busess—DOTr

The key question many have is the fare rates.

“Currently, we will be applying the same fare which is P13.29 boarding fare. Additionally, there will be an extra P1.21 per kilometer traveled,” according to Asec. Jorjette Aquino, Department of Transportation.

For example, a trip from Baclaran to Dr. Santos Station would cost approximately P25.00, while a journey from FPJ Station to Dr. Santos would be around P45.00.

“This is even cheaper than the existing fare for buses and jeepneys,” Sec. Jaime Bautista, Department of Transportation stressed.

Construction of the LRT-1 Cavite Extension Phase 1 began in September 2019 under the administration of former President Rodrigo Duterte.

Preliminary works for Phase 2 and Phase 3 have already started, with the entire project expected to be completed by 2031.

Travel time from Baclaran to Bacoor will be reduced from 1 hour and 10 minutes to 25 minutes.
