MARINA integrates efforts into Maritime Safety Plan 2025

THE Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) aligned its efforts to enhance maritime safety in the country.

In order to come up with a holistic approach, a workshop to finalize the “Maritime Safety Plan (MSP) 2025 for Domestic Passenger Ships” was held at the MARINA Central Office in Port Area, Manila on 23-24 January 2025.  The event aimed to formulate a structured roadmap to enhance maritime safety in the Philippine domestic shipping operations.

MARINA Administrator Sonia Malaluan mentioned that the workshop aims to align all the outputs and efforts toward a shared vision of maritime safety excellence. She said that MSP 2025 will serve as a structured roadmap that reflects the commitment to proactive safety management and sustainable maritime practices.

The workshop adopted goals already identified in the IMO model regulations on ferry safety, namely;   Safety Culture, Safety Management and Governance, Occupational Safety and Health, Navigation and Radio Communications, Stowage and Securing, Seaworthiness of Voyage and Full Compliance, Aids to Navigation, Marine Casualty Investigation, Duty to Render Assistance, Application of New Technology and Implementation of Action Plan.

The MSP 2025 for Domestic Passenger Ships integrated all recommendations from different activities held by MARINA into one safety plan.
