Massive breach exposes personal information of 20 million elderly Thais

CYBER police officials in Thailand received a complaint from the Department of Older Persons that about 20 million sets of personal information have been exposed in the Dark Web.

Thai cyber police and the Committee for the Protection of Personal Information are investigating whether the data was leaked by hackers or individuals with access.

The sensitive details leaked to the Dark Web include names and ID card numbers, e-mails, salaries, phone numbers, and pictures of the individuals.

Los Angeles-based cybersecurity firm, Resecurity, initially reported the alarming incident on January 22.

The permanent secretary of social development and human security confirmed the news later on.

An opposition lawmaker urged the government to accelerate the enforcement of the so-called ‘Cloud First’ policy.

The said strategy could help in preventing data leaks in the future.
