Metro Manila LGUs among the slowest in SAP distribution-DSWD

SEVERAL local government units in Metro Manila are among the slowest in distributing aid to those affected by COVID-19.

According to the Department of Social Welfare and Development, only about 40% of Metro Manila’s total beneficiaries receive financial assistance under the Social Amelioration Program (SAP).

DSWD also noted that Caloocan had the highest distribution of SAP funds followed by Pasig, Valenzuela, Marikina, Mandaluyong, and Manila City.

DSWD is now calling for all LGUs to accelerate the distribution of the SAP cash fund as more residents await such assistance.

Meanwhile, despite the slow pace of some LGUs in distributing government aid to those affected by COVID-19, DSWD is still confident that all beneficiaries will receive assistance before its deadline ends.

According to DSWD Director Irene Dumlao, out of the total 18 million target beneficiaries, there are 13 million beneficiaries already received under SAP.

A total of 556 LGUs in the country have also been awarded the SAP cash aid grant.

Dumlao said that by the time SAP’s distribution is complete until the end of its deadline tomorrow May 7, it will only begin distributing its second wave based on the Bayanihan to Heal as One Act.
