More than 2M workers lost jobs due to COVID-19 crisis

THE number of unemployed workers has increased due to COVID-19 pandemic.

 

According to the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) records, there were 2, 073, 362 workers affected from 79, 271 establishments forced to close operations.

 

Of that, 1.4 million are affected by the temporary closure of businesses.

 

While 687, 000 workers were reduced in wages due to their company’s alternative work arrangements.

 

According to DOLE, the NCR recorded the most affected workers because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

 

Meanwhile, nearly 90, 000 overseas Filipino workers have lost their jobs due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

 

According to the Philippine Overseas Labor Offices, a total of 89, 436 overseas Filipino workers did not receive wages or lost their jobs in different parts of the world.
