Nearly P1 billion worth of shabu seized in Batangas

A suspect, carrying nearly 14 billion pesos worth of illegal drugs, is now in the custody of local police forces in Alitagtag, Batangas.

The drugs were wrapped in sacks and sealed in large sachets. According to reports from Alitagtag Municipal Police, the said was flagged down around 8 a.m. on April 15 at a checkpoint for inspection.

When the driver was asked for his license by the chief of Alitagtag Police, he noticed that the driver was nervous, the police chief then told the driver to remove the cover, revealing 2 tons of shabu inside it.

The suspect was identified as Alajon Michael Zarate, 47 years old, a resident of Project 4 Masagana, Quezon City.

Authorities claimed that this is the biggest haul they have ever made from various operations they have conducted.

On the other hand, the Department of the Interior and Local Government, Philippine National Police, and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency have yet to provide further details of the operation due to their ongoing pursuit of individuals and groups involved in illegal drugs.

Authorities are also ordered to immediately destroy the seized contrabands.

Meanwhile, Alitagtag Municipal Police Chief Police Captain de Luna was promoted on the spot to the rank of police major.

The PNP and PDEA previously said that they are closely monitoring the coastline of Batangas and adjacent areas due to their potential as drop-off points for contraband, including illegal drugs.

Philippine authorities aim to apprehend more individuals and groups linked to this operation.
