AMID the massive flooding and evacuation efforts, the collapse of the Kakhovka Dam, and the draining of the reservoir behind it do not pose an immediate nuclear safety threat to the Powerplant of Zaporizhzhia further upstream as said by United Nation’s nuclear watchdog.
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said a prolonged absence of cooling water at the nuclear plant will disrupt the operation of emergency diesel generators and pointed out that the plant has a number of alternative sources of water cooling.
The nuclear watchdog is closely monitoring the situation at the Zaporizhzhia Plant; Grossi said, that there’s no immediate nuclear safety risk there following the destruction of the Kakhovka Dam.
According to Grossi, the IAEA staff on the site have been informed that the damage to the dam.
The IAEA chief also said that the water through the said route should last for a few days.
Meanwhile, the management at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant is discussing further measures that will be implemented as said by Grossi.
