NORTH Korean leader Kim Jong Un has called on his government to help raise living standards in mountainous and remote areas of his country.
According to Kim, the failure to satisfactorily provide basic living necessities such as condiments and food to residents has become a serious political issue that the ruling party and his government cannot ignore.
“Today, failure to satisfactorily provide the people in local areas with basic living necessities including condiments, foodstuff, and consumption goods has arisen as a serious political issue that our Party and government can never sidestep,” said Kim Jong Un, Leader of North Korea.
According to state media KCNA, Kim Jong Un led the meeting of the ruling Worker’s Party of Korea, where the primary agenda was regional development.
He underscored the overall regional economy of the country is in a terrible situation due to imbalance and a significant gap in each region.
Kim called for reducing the gap between urban and rural areas, emphasizing its importance under the country’s recently announced regional development policy.
“At present, it is a very urgent immediate task for leveling up the material and cultural living standards of the regional people,” said Un.
“We should not sit by and wait till the situation and conditions turn favorable but find more jobs to be faithful to our duty for the sake of the people,” he added.
According to experts, North Korea’s economic situation has worsened since closing its borders in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
