THE number of areas and families affected by the combined effects of the Southwest Monsoon and Typhoon Carina continues to rise.
According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) – as of 8:00 am, Wednesday, July 24 – the number of areas experiencing severe flooding has increased from 60 to over 100.
In this count, Region 3 (Central Luzon) remains the most affected.
Here, over 64 areas were flooded.
MIMAROPA followed by 19, Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) with 13, CALABARZON with 11, Region 9 with 9 areas, and one in Region 10.
As a result, over 100-K families or equivalent to over 800-K individuals have been affected by the inclement weather.
Additionally, over 30-K individuals are temporarily taking shelter in almost 100 evacuation centers.
Meanwhile, out of the eight reported deaths, seven have been confirmed to have died due to the severe weather.
The highest number of fatalities is in Region 9 with four deaths, while Regions 10, 11, and BARMM each reported one death.
As of 5:00 am on Wednesday, Typhoon Carina continues to strengthen as it heads towards Taiwan.
Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal Number 2 is raised over Batanes, while Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal Number 1 is raised over the Babuyan Islands, the northern portion of mainland Cagayan including (Claveria, Santa Praxedes, Sanchez-Mira, Pamplona, Abulug, Ballesteros, Aparri, Camalaniugan, Buguey, Santa Teresita, Santa Ana, Gonzaga), and the northern portion of Ilocos Norte including (Burgos, Bangui, Pagudpud, Dumalneg, and Adams).
At present, the air assets of the Philippine Air Force (PAF) are ready if needed.
They are also coordinating with local government units for Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Response.
The Philippine Army has also deployed its Urban Search and Rescue teams and other units to assist affected residents.
