THE Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Commandant, Admiral Ronnie Gil L Gavan PCG, presided over the donning and oath-taking ceremony of newly appointed members of the PCG Auxiliary (PCGA) at Barangay Bachawan, San Agustin, Romblon, on 16 December 2024.
Congressman Eleandro Jesus Madrona, representative of the Lone District of Romblon and a key advocate behind the enactment of Republic Act (RA) 9993 otherwise known as PCG Law of 2009, was inducted as Auxiliary Commodore of the PCGA in the province.
His induction, along with 15 municipal mayors of Romblon and 126 committed volunteers, marks a significant collaboration between the PCG and local government units aimed at enhancing maritime safety, search and rescue capabilities, and environmental protection initiatives.
In his speech, Admiral Gavan conveyed heartfelt thanks to the local government of Romblon for their unwavering support of the Coast Guard’s initiatives. He also lauded Congressman Madrona for his instrumental efforts in the passage of RA 9993, which continues to empower the PCG to fulfill its mandate.
The Commandant also highlighted that the PCG is embarking on a transformation journey with the anticipated passage of a new law, guided by the leadership of Auxiliary Commodore Madrona.
For his part, Congressman Madrona expressed gratitude to the PCG and emphasized the critical role of local government leaders in supporting the Coast Guard’s mission.
“I am very pleased that the core officers—Commanders—are all mayors of my 16 towns. From them, we expect leadership and collaboration to grow, enabling us to support our beloved PCG family in the performance of their duties,” he shared.
Moreover, the legislator called on the people of Romblon to fully support the organization, underscoring the Coast Guard’s role as a key partner in developing the province as a maritime hub and a shield for its progress.
The event was attended by the Coast Guard Public Affairs Service (CGPAS) Acting Commander, Commodore Algier Ricafrente PCG, Coast Guard District Southern Tagalog (CGDSTL) Commander, Commodore Geronimo Tuvilla PCG, and Auxiliary Rear Admiral Mark Llandro Mendoza PCGA.
