WITH the theme “Malaysia Madani: Tekad Perpaduan, Penuhi Harapan” or Determination in Unity, Fulfilling Hope, thousands of Malaysians celebrated their National Day with many showcasing their Merdeka Costumes.
Many of them cheerfully expressed how happy they are that Malaysia has blossomed over the years.
“It’s so enjoyable and very lively. This year is more fun than before. We are very happy on the stage because we’re performing “Tanggu “(Chinese Drum). So it’s really fun”.
“So far this year more people have come compared last year so this place is bigger,” according to Jeffrey Tan.
“The motive of this costume (costume of the cat) is to express our patriotism to our country for today’s Independence Day. We are so proud of the Malaysian heroes; meeting them is hard, but today, we get to meet them all and take photos together. Patriotism is already etched in our hearts. We love our country,” Sofea Salleh said.
Actually, I celebrate Independence Day almost every year, even the last couple of years before MCO. So this event excites me because we celebrate only once a year. It’s a good thing that we go to watch the performance to increase our independent spirit,” Amier Zawawi said.
Malaysians also flocked to the venue on Wednesday night at Dataran Putrajaya to get the best positions to view the various parades on Merdeka Day.
One of the main attractions at the event was the parachute of the VAT69 commando of the Royal Malaysia Police, as well as the motorcycle performance of the Army Red Warrior Team.
More than 17,000 participated in the parade, including 67 contingents, 36 brass bands, 534 land and air assets, and 100 service animals.
During the celebration, Malaysians recognized the contribution of various sectors that paved the way for the continued development of the country.
Malaysian King Yang Di Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri-Ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and Queen Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah graced the event.
The two Malaysian royalties greeted the people and took selfies with the participants and visitors after the parade.
The king and queen have bid farewell to the thousands of people in the crowd at the National Day 2023 Celebrations at Dataran Putrajaya as their terms end on January 30, 2024.
Malaysians will remember this celebration as one of the best in history, with tens of thousands of people present to enjoy the moment and to show a United Malaysia.
