THE 12th parliamentary and sixth Assembly of Experts elections in Iran recorded an unofficial voter turnout of 41 percent, equivalent to about 25 million eligible voters.
It was the lowest number of votes recorded since the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
More than 61 million registered voters in Iran and more than 15,000 candidates competed for a four-year term in Iran’s 290-seat chamber during parliamentary elections on Friday, March 1.
The voting started at 08:00 a.m. local time and was extended three times until 10 p.m.
Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi previously cautioned attempts by the enemies of the Islamic Republic to incite tensions and lower ballot turnout, amid concerns that many Iranians will boycott the vote.
