PBBM urges Philippine Army to focus on cybersecurity

PRESIDENT Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., called on the Philippine Army to give special attention to strengthening their cybersecurity capabilities.

This was conveyed by PBBM and read by Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr., at the 127th Founding Anniversary of the Philippine Army in Capas, Tarlac on Friday, March 22.

AFP Chief of Staff General Romeo Brawner; Philippine Army Lieutenant General Roy Galido; Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin; Philippine National Police General Benjie Acorda; Philippine Coast Guard Admiral Ronnie Gil Gavan, and other officials were present at the celebration.

Marcos urged the army to focus on utilizing new technologies by enhancing collaboration with other major services of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the country’s foreign defense counterparts.

“Our ability to counter cyber threats is also of great importance. Given this emerging threat, I urge the Philippine Army to bolster its cybersecurity capabilities to keep up with the rapid technological advancements and help maintain the country’s security and stability,” Sec. Gilberto Teodoro, Jr., stated.

The president also emphasized the importance of the military always being prepared and more effective in its mission to defend the country’s sovereignty.

According to Marcos, this is why his administration continues to strengthen the morale, proficiency, and response of the Army.

And that government initiatives on capacity-building, rigorous training, and educational activities within the army are ongoing.

‘‘Not only has the organization been successful in its internal security operations, but it also exerted efforts in shifting to external defense,’’ Sec. Teodoro added.

The anniversary of the Philippine Army was among the lined-up events that PBBM was supposed to attend, but it did not push through due to experiencing flu-like symptoms.
