PCG strengthens coastal defense with inauguration of high-speed response boat in Romblon

BOLSTERING coastal protection efforts of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), Honorable Eleandro Jesus Mendoza, Congressman of the Lone District of Romblon announced a proposal aimed at further fortifying Romblon’s maritime security infrastructure.

It was during the blessing and inauguration of High-Speed Response Boat (HSRB) 009 graced by the PCG Commandant, CG Admiral Ronnie Gil Gavan, as the guest of honor and speaker. The ceremony was held at Barangay Poblacion, San Agustin, Romblon, yesterday, 04 April 2024.

Highlighting the importance of proactive coastal safeguarding, Congressman Mendoza disclosed plans for a new three-hectare base for the Philippine Coast Guard include search and rescue operations and educational facilities, costing 400 million pesos and aiming to streamline PCG’s core functions.

CG Admiral Gavan acknowledges Congressman Madrona’s key role in crafting the Philippine Coast Guard Law of 2009, shaping the organization’s current state, and supports revising the law to adapt to the evolving needs of the PCG.

In addition to fuel support, the Provincial Governor of Romblon, Honorable Jose Riano, emphasized the broader spectrum of assistance and resources for the PCG. He pledged ongoing collaboration and investment to enhance the organization’s operational capacity and effectiveness.

The event was significant as CG Chief Petty Officer Jovel Timpoc was appointed as the boat captain, showing the PCG’s dedication to using skilled personnel for advanced equipment. Additionally, a readiness report was presented to CG Commodore Geronimo Tuvilla, showcasing the PCG’s preparedness in safeguarding Philippine waters.

With its versatility and advanced features, the new vessel reaffirms the PCG’s commitment to ensuring support to the PCG core function throughout the archipelago.
