MULTIPLE US officials claimed that received intelligence reports that Iranian-backed militia groups are planning to escalate attacks against American troops in the region which prompted a warning from the Pentagon.
National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby believes there is a direct connection between the militia groups and the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps.
Meanwhile, Department of Defense spokesperson Brigadier General Patrick Ryder echoed the same claim, stating that the groups responsible for the incidents are backed by Iran, despite the Pentagon having no specific information on whether the Islamic Republic explicitly ordered the attacks.
The US military issued the warning after U.S. forces in multiple locations across Iraq and Syria came under attack by aerial drones at least 13 times last week.
According to the US Central Command, 20 American servicemen were injured in a drone attack on military bases located in Syria and Iraq on October 18 alone.
On Tuesday, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken warned that Washington does not seek conflict with Iran but would act swiftly and decisively if Tehran or its proxies launch attacks on U.S. personnel anywhere.
Multiple US officials linked the attacks to Washington’s support toward Israel amid its ongoing war with Iran-backed Hamas.
Iran has yet to respond to the claims.
