PH Congress avoids escalation amid calls for Marcos Jr.’s resignation

THE House of Representatives has commented on the call for resignation directed at President Ferdinand R.  Marcos by a city Mayor.

Congressmen are cautious not to escalate calls for President  Marcos to step down.

Earlier, Davao City Mayor Sebastian ‘Baste’ Duterte urged the chief executive to resign, suggesting he lacks genuine love for the Philippines.

According to Rizal Rep. Jack Duavit, leader of the National Unity Party (NUP) in the House, they should ‘respect’ Mayor Duterte’s statement to prevent further tensions.

“I think Mayor Baste already gave a statement, I saw it on the front page earlier. Let’s just respect the statement so we don’t add fuel to the fire. He already made a statement. I’ll just leave it at that,” Rep. Jack Duavit said.

Meanwhile, Bataan Rep. Albert Garcia of NUP stated that they won’t amplify the issue to avoid hindering the country’s progress.

“The Speaker’s instructions are not to escalate the situation so we can work for the progress of the country. So let’s leave it at that,” Rep. Albert Garcia said.

Mayor Duterte previously apologized to Senator Imee Marcos for his call for President Marcos resignation.

The Davao mayor erupted in anger due to concerns about the potential arrest by the International Criminal Court (ICC) of his father, former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, an event that would only occur if the current administration cooperated.
