ENERGY Assistant Secretary Mylene C. Capongcol discussed the updates in the Philippine Renewable Energy Policies and Programs during the “Making the Difference Through Technology” Roadshow Event organized by Canadian Solar, Inc.
Among these, she underscored the Preferential Dispatch for Renewable Energy, the Renewable Portfolio Standards for off-grid areas, and the Green Energy Auction Program, which is in its third year of implementation.
Asec. Capongcol announced that the third round of the Green Energy Auction Program will take place in August this year.
The Department of Energy (DOE) is also actively developing resource-specific programs such as the Waste-to-Energy Program, the Expanded Rooftop Solar Program, and the Derisking of Geothermal Power Projects. These initiatives aim to harness the country’s abundant renewable energy potential.
The government is aggressively promoting the development of renewable energy to achieve its goal of 35 percent share in the power generation mix by 2030 and 50 percent by 2040.
