Philippines, Guatemala promise stronger ties in agriculture, climate action, people-to-people relations

THE governments of the Philippines and Guatemala have pledged to stronger bilateral relations between the two countries in terms of improving the agricultural sector, promoting climate action, and improving people-to-people relations.

According to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., the Philippines and Guatemala have unique similarities that the two governments can work on.

This is especially in the matter of finding solutions to their respective issues in agriculture, climate change, and the people.

President Marcos made the statement as he accepted the credentials of Guatemala Non-Resident Ambassador H.E. Manuel Estuardo Roldán Barillas at the Malacañang Palace on Tuesday.

The Chief Executive stated that the Philippines and Guatemala should not limit their areas of cooperation when it comes to farming, as the first major area they can explore, along with many other opportunities.

PBBM also emphasized that both the Philippines and Guatemala can learn from their respective efforts to prevent climate change, which affects not only the two countries but also the rest of the world.

Meanwhile, President Marcos also assured Barillas of the government’s efforts to protect the welfare of Filipino workers.

Philippines, Lithuania agree to collaborate on technology & cybersecurity, education

On the other hand, the Philippines and Lithuania agreed to cooperate in the fields of technology, cybersecurity, education, and people-to-people exchanges to address various challenges.

The agreement was made amid the presentation of the credentials of the Lithuanian Non-Resident Ambassador to the Philippines H.E. Ricardas Slepavicius to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., in Malacañang.

The Lithuanian envoy said the two countries could share experiences in addressing mutual concerns despite the distance between the two countries.

And with Lithuania being a pioneer in laser development and production, the ambassador said the Philippines and his country can work together in laser technology.

He said Lithuania gets 10% of the global market for scientific lasers.

The Lithuanian ambassador added that the universities and scientific communities of the two countries can also partner for the production and development of high-quality lasers.

President Marcos Jr., agreed with this, saying, that in terms of technology, it is definitely something that should be looked at.

PBBM has expressed interest in making scientific lasers and lasers in general.

Moreover, the Lithuanian ambassador also announced that the two countries can also improve their relationship through sports while proposing to organize special basketball projects.
