Posting threat against the President may face inciting to sedition case

AN inciting to sedition case can be imposed on a person who encourages another person to do harm to an individual.

This is how Attorney Mark Tolentino clarified in an SMNI News interview in relation to several civilians who posted on social media where they would give reward to whoever killed President Rodrigo Duterte.

“Under the Revised Penal Code, pwede syang makulong ng hanggang six years per action plus P400, 000 fine. For example, everyday niya ginagawa yun, so every act na ginagawa nya may kulong yun hanggang six years then may bayad sya na fine sa ating government up to P400, 000,” said Tolentino.

If such civilians are proven to have intentional motives, they may face such charges.

Recalling that in recent days authorities have arrested several netizens who offered a reward for who could kill the president.
