Powerful earthquake in Morocco claims hundreds of lives as death toll rises

THE 6.8-magnitude earthquake hit Morocco’s High Atlas mountain range shortly before midnight on Friday.

The death toll from the earthquake has raised to 820, and nearly 700 people sustained injuries.

Most people who died from the deadly tremor came from hard-to-reach mountainous areas.

Authorities anticipate the death toll to continue increasing as the numbers rapidly change in every hour that passes by.

Meanwhile, the deadly earthquake did not significantly affect air travel in and out of the country, with only minor delays recorded on Saturday.

Morocco experiences frequent earthquakes, and the last major tremor took place in 2004, which killed 628 people.

World leaders have extended their condolences and sympathies to the victims and affected families.
