Putin vows to release Indians fighting in Russian army during Modi visit

INDIAN Prime Minister Narendra Modi was received with a roaring welcome as he arrived in the Russian capital of Moscow.

This is the third time Modi visited Russia after winning his historic third term as Prime Minister.

He sat down for a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin during his 2-day visit to the country.

Putin promised an early release of all Indian citizens serving in its army following the death of two Indian troops who fought in the war against Ukraine.

Modi raised the matter during a private dinner with Putin.

Additionally, the Russian leader personally awarded his Indian counterpart the Order of St. Andrew the Apostle, the highest civilian honor granted by the Russian Federation. He also addressed a huge crowd of the Indian community in Russia.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy criticized the Indian leader’s visit as a huge disappointment.

India is among the top buyers of Russian oil while Russia is one of the biggest suppliers of arms to India.

Modi pursued the visit despite concerns of criticisms from the West to show it is capable of making sound diplomatic decisions as an independent state.
